When Jesus cast out a demon that kept a man from speaking, the demon went out and the man who had been unable to speak spoke. Seeing Jesus perform this kind of miracle, people clamored, “He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons” (Luke 11:15). Also, some tested Jesus and “sought from Him a sign from heaven” (Luke 11:16); that is, they were telling Him to try just once to make a miracle happen in heaven right before their eyes, and asking whether He could do that. Jesus cast out the demon that kept the man from speaking so that the man came to speak, yet the people slandered Jesus instead.
