In the synagogue on the Sabbath there was a woman who had long been unable to straighten her body. At the very place where Jesus was teaching the word, a person who had been ill for eighteen years was present. The text does not say that the woman first came to Jesus and asked Him to heal her illness. The Lord saw her and called her, and He loosed the bondage that had afflicted her. “But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, ‘Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.’ And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God” (Luke 13:12–13). The person who, in long-standing suffering, could not straighten her body by herself was immediately made straight by the word and the touch of the Lord.
